Abstract

These stories delve into the experiences of female adolescence, blending themes of innocence, magic, and harsh realities. The collection begins with “A Matter of Knowing,” the narrative of a young girl navigating the complexities of identity and family. “Orogenesis” follows a teen on a hiking expedition, and as she watches her handsome guide, there is something else watching her. “I’m riding my bike in the dark” gets inside the mind of a young woman on a harrowing bike ride home. And “Find Me at the Bottom of the Lake,” a novella, investigates the connection between two women who use art to understand loss. In these narratives, our protagonists awake to selves that they must confront.
